NASA-UAP-D012, Mercury Atlas 8 Audio Excerpt, October 3, 1962
NASA · 2062-10-03 · Low Earth Orbit · release 2
During the Mercury Atlas 8 mission, Sigma 7 pilot Walter M. “Wally” Schirra Jr. describes observing “little white objects that tend to come from the capsule itself and drift off.” Schirra later also refers to those objects as “particles” and “lathe shavings.” Schirra also describes seeing a burst of light in the window, whose source he cannot identify. He speculates that his observation corresponds with the moment the sun passes below the horizon during sunset.
This is one record. The archive holds the rest — ask it anything across the UAP Files files and every answer is cited to the page.

As some pretty stars inside and also have the little white objects that seem to come from the capsule itself and drift off. And if they are a yaw check, it's fantastic. I suspect that the star I see is obturus. It would be very interesting. It is neither. It is one of the white objects. So that two stars are standing quite still. The one object actually looked like it came toward me. But it wasn't. I can actually see that particle that is playing off and as John described it as a wave shaving. It's a very good description of it. My rates are now just about 0 at all 3 axes. I still have white in the first coat and the course of looking straight up. And yet at this point, this is the tree that my altitude is. I get the couch there. I really can't pick it too well. Just about inversion at this point. And at point 0, this is above the horizon. As a result, I notice that these particles keep tending after me relative to me at any time. Periscope is blocking another rapidly. It's unsit. It's almost locked up completely at this point and it's really not used to me. It came to real burst of light in me. When though, I really don't know what it is. This point I should be coming up on a sunset by about 15 minutes. Periscope is dark and must be just getting a last look at the horizon. Get up right down the road.
