Hanover, New Jersey Dear Dr. Bircher: V-Ie have just finished a preliminary assay of the relative potencies of a single dose of LSD-25, 1~.5 meg/kg, and of psilocybin, 210 meg/kg, on 10 new_hur.~n·subjects, and 1 thought you might be interested .in the results. / As the enclosed table shoWSj,ther.e were no significant differences with respect to any of the measures employed 5 {see previous correspondence for methods), although in of the 7 measures, the effects of LSD-25 ~~re slightly stronger. This trend, 1 believe, is due to the longer duration of action of LSD-25, with consequent augmentation of the differences hours valu.es ("areas under the curves"). Clinically, there appears to be no real difference between the peak effects of_ the two drugs in these dosages, the similarity extending even to the·_ilncidence of "true" hallucinations and depersonallzatior" confirming Dr. Isbell's observations with lower doses of psilocybin. We have now commenced the new cross-tolerance study, on 9 subjects, (one dropped out), in which \.re will use 1 • .5 meg/kg of LSD-2.5 and 210 mcg/ltg of psilocybin as control, test and challenging doses, and increase the period of chrDnic intoxi cation on each of these drugs to 12 days. Barring unforeseen delays, the study should be finished by May 10, and 1 hope that shortly thereafter l will be able to send you a summary of the results. With best personal regards, Sincerely, Abraham Wikler, M.D. Acting Dir.ector A'I:I: bws Enclosure . <.·. ..... n,.., '!),...,,.. ~,) (H !: 10} --~ :-; -· 0 a ............. ··~ - . ., . . .. - • • • ...... ... - < • 1 '\ w .. . _ ... , .. , , . .Q . ~ , . · 1 ~. .. < " r P • , • • • ,. . 1,: ~ .. o.~£ ·i: ·.0~40 > o~1:j - . . . . . . ~ . . . · . · .. . .'. . ~ .. ~..,., r.:ltC ... . ,. ; . ; - . 4 ; . >. ~ ~ · : ~ , "' tl.t;C :> t J ' v ·,,.~.·, . .# .. The document is a typewritten letter dated March 7, 1960, addressed to Dr. R. Bircher. Several handwritten annotations are present, including a circled number "176," and the notations "How?" and "II" in the upper right quadrant. The text describes preliminary results and ongoing studies of LSD-25 and psilocybin, referencing enclosed tables and prior correspondence, though these are not visible in the provided image. A signature follows the closing remarks, identified as Abraham Wikler, M.D., Acting Director. The bottom right of the page contains a handwritten numerical designation, "B-309".

This document appears to be a research report, possibly from a scientific study. It features a table with columns for "Measure," "Difference in Response," and two other coded columns. The table details physiological responses to a substance identified as LSD-25 and another substance called psilocybin. Handwritten annotations are present in the bottom right corner, including what appears to be a signature or identifier "B-308". There are no photographs, diagrams, or stamps visible on this page; the document is primarily text-based with structured data in the table.
