I do not yet Y~ow the January schedule, but 1 am anticipating that the Committee on Drug Addiction and Narcotics will hold its annual meeting in \1ashington sometime during that month. Dr. Eddy is corr.ing do\·m , next week and I.may learn at that time when the meeting is to be. I \vill let you kr~----~ /. ~ 1 have receive\t $00 mg of Psilocyl:iin.J If you would like some of the material plm.e-.teL~e..-lmo.,,. I have noH given doses of 2 to 3 mg/70 kg to 8 men, and am observing definite effects with even these doses, \·rhich are lo\ver than those recorT1.11ended by the company. The pattern seems to be very LSD-like. Concerning the benzimidazoles, I am enclosing a thermofax copy of part of a letter from Dr. Eddy. The three compounds mentioned are not these of Janssen, but are produced by the Ciba Company. Two of them, you will notice, are tremendously potent in monkeys (see figures on physical dependence). I could probably obtain small supplies of the two most potent drugs, and ask Dr. Eddy ~ill to obtain some for me when he is here next week. I also have a supply of Ba-19390, and some information about its use in clinical trials. It is not as potent as morphine in man and, therefore, is of little interest at the moment. As soon as I talk to Dr. Eddy I will let you lmow about the January dates. With kindest personal regards, Yours very sincerely, l{t~Qr~~. H~is Isbell, M.D. Director HI: tlm Enclosure ;3-ff
