This document describes a CIA-sponsored research project at the Texas Research Institute for Mental Sciences (TRIMS) that aimed to improve the use of physiological measurements as indicators of emotional stress, using volunteer medical students as subjects and administering stimulants and depressants.
This is one record. The archive holds the rest — ask it anything across the MKUltra files and every answer is cited to the page.

Visually, it features a graphic of a large, imposing vault door on the left side, with the text "THE BLACK VAULT" rendered in a stylized, white font against a dark background. To the right of the vault graphic is a block of white text detailing the origin of this specific document: it was obtained from The Black Vault, is part of the MKULTRA/Mind Control Collection, and contains over 20,000 declassified CIA pages. A prominent yellow hyperlink, "http://mkultra.theblackvault.com," is presented at the bottom, indicating the online source for the full collection. There are no photographs of people, locations, handwritten notes, official stamps, forms, diagrams, tables, redactions, or experimental procedures visible on this page; the visual content is limited to the graphic and the explanatory text.
---- ----- ----·--·- . . - ·- --- .. • SU~1MARY The CIA-sponsored research project with the Texas Research Institute· for Mental Sciences (TRIMS) was conducted to improve the usefulness of. physiological measurements as indicators of emotional $tress. The subjects were volunteer medical students who were both witting and consenting. Measurements were made of such things as heart and breathing rates of the students during final ex.am week \'then they were presumably under more ten sion than at other times during the semester. For comparison purposes, similar measurements were taken during periods of non-stress. During ·one phase of the work~ stimulants and depressants (barbiturates and amphet amine) were administered to 7-8 student volunteers to determine the effects of these drugs upon the baseline measurements being made. At .!!2. time was LSD or any other hallucinogen used. ... • ' --------------- c.....' ...-. • .. \'. BACKGROUND MATERIAL FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY , . This page is a scanned, typewritten document with handwritten annotations. The document is titled "BACKGROUND MATERIAL FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY" and lists facts about contracts with Dr. Burch and Texas Research Institute for Mental Sciences (TRIMS). Several handwritten notes appear in the margins and between typed lines, including a circled number "four", a date range "(1964-1968)", and a parenthetical phrase "(unclassified association)". There are also some illegible handwritten words and symbols at the bottom of the page. The content discusses experiments involving stimulants and depressants, physiological measurements, and polygraph testing, but there are no visual depictions of people, equipment, or experimental procedures.
This document is a single, unmarked, typed page, with text filling most of the frame. There are no photographs, stamps, forms, diagrams, or tables visible. Two lines of handwritten text appear at the top left: "-453-340" and "-R ZYYVU VCZZC". There are no visible redactions or obscured content. The document appears to be a news report about CIA-funded research on mental health and LSD.

The document is a typed page with a dense block of text, appearing to be a declassified report or memo from the CIA. There are no photographs, diagrams, forms, or tables visible. However, there are several instances of handwritten annotations. For example, a line is drawn through the word "CIA" in the phrase "CIA-FUNDED RESEARCH" and handwritten text appears above it, though it is too blurry to discern. There are also handwritten dates near the bottom of the page. The text itself discusses research projects relating to lie detector tests and the use of LSD, with some portions of the text appearing to be redacted or obscured, although the redactions are not significant enough to obstruct the majority of the content.
