This document, from the CIA's MKUltra program, proposes research into the military application of hypnotism, specifically a "hypnotic messenger technique" to conceal and retrieve messages from a subject's unconscious mind.
This is one record. The archive holds the rest — ask it anything across the MKUltra files and every answer is cited to the page.

L1-~ f\~ Since the international situntion is in its present state, 1 feel the need for positive action in the militnry application of hypnotism is imperative. In a field such as this you need an individual, such as myself, who has lived with the problems of hypnotism and its military implica tions for many years. orou level has, above the imagiriation and energy to carry on research work in this field. Please look over the enclo5ed proposal and give me your reaction. The hypnotic me5senger technique is relatively uncomplicated. There are 5evcral other projects which I could submit to you for consideration which are, in my opinion, even :more important than this but involve much more complicated techniques. Since the time is short between now and this summer, we certainly appreciate your immediate consideration of this matter. ~ . ! The visual content of this page features a stylized graphic of a vault door on the left, rendered in shades of gray and blue, with gleaming metallic details and a prominent circular lock mechanism. To the right of the vault graphic, large, stylized white text reads "THE BLACK VAULT." Below this text, smaller white text provides information about the document's source, a database of declassified government documents, specifically mentioning the MKULTRA/Mind Control Collection and its origin from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). A yellow URL is prominently displayed at the bottom, indicating where the collection can be accessed online. There are no photographs, handwritten annotations, signatures, official stamps, forms, diagrams, tables, redactions, or visual evidence of experimental procedures, equipment, or facilities.
The document is a typed letter with handwritten notations. At the top, there is handwritten text "A/B 5, 90/8" and a handwritten "B" next to a large redaction. Another handwritten "A" appears on the left side, along with "H-B/16." There are several large, dark redactions throughout the document, obscuring significant portions of the text. The letter is dated "February 6, 1957" and typed from "Washington, D. C." A handwritten signature or mark is present at the end of the letter, above another large redaction. The overall impression is a heavily redacted official document with administrative notations.

The document is a scanned page of typewritten text. There are no photographs, handwritten annotations, stamps, forms, diagrams, or tables visible. However, there are several instances of small black dots and other minor marks scattered throughout the text, possibly from the original printing or scanning process, which do not obscure any content. The page is predominantly filled with typed paragraphs, suggesting it is part of a report or research document.
The document is a typed page with "METHODOLOGY" at the top and titled sections for "Subjects:", "Equipment:", and "Procedure:". There are no photographs, handwritten annotations, signatures, official stamps, forms, diagrams, charts, or tables. There is no visible evidence of experimental procedures, equipment, or facilities beyond what is described in the text. The document appears to be a purely textual description of experimental methodology.
The document contains typed text that appears to be a proposal or report related to a project, possibly involving experimentation. It lists financial figures associated with personnel and expenses such as a "principal investigator," "associate," and "part-time secretary." There is a handwritten "C" in the lower left quadrant of the page, adjacent to a heavily redacted section of black ink obscuring a portion of the bottom of the document. The right side of the page features a textured, speckled pattern indicative of a background or a heavily degraded area, further obscuring any potential visual content.
