LEROY ELDRIDGE CLEAVER appeared at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, (RPI), Troy, New York, on October 10, 1968. This was CLEAVER's first and only appearance in the Albany Division. This appearance was covered by sources and informants and his speech was taped in its entirety. A debriefing of all the sources and informants in attendance at CLEAVER's speech revealed that he was received enthusi- astically by only a relatively small percentage of the approximately 1200 people attending. The sources indicate those in favor of his speech were affiliated with the Peace and Freedom Party and generally not students of RPI. Write-ups by the local newspaper media and the "Polytechnic", a weekly student newspaper, reflected only the size of the crowd, predominantly students and the context of CLEAVER's speech. In order to fully capitalize upon BPP and US differences as well as to exploit all avenues of creating further dissension in the ranks of the BPP, recipient offices are instructed to submit imaginative and hard-hitting counterintelligence measures aimed at crippling the BPP.
