On 2/7/69 I personally viewed the final edited version of the one-half hour film program, "Wild Grapes". This film will be shown at 7:00 p.m., 2/9/69, LA Channel 8, Tampa, Fla. The film is an excellent production fully exploit- ing the Junta of Militant Organization, Studen' for a Demo- cratic Society and Student Protest Demonstration at Tampa- St. Petersburg, Fla. and represents maximum rer's of this program. At end of viewing [REDACTED] was asked if he would make available the film for closer examination by Bureau representatives. The Jackson Division, in above referenced letter, requested Bureau approval to contact [REDACTED] of the Jackson Daily News to have him publicize incidents at the school, protecting the identity of the Bureau as the source, which articles would be written hopefully to highlight the total lack of discipline at the school, the existence of black extremists, and separatist pro- ponents on the campus and apparent rampant criminal behavior by many students. It is noted that the Political Action Committee (FAC) is a black extremist group at Tougaloo College which is affiliated with SNCC. [REDACTED] is on the Jackson Division Agitator Index, as is [REDACTED], who is also a Tougaloo College student. [REDACTED] is a former [REDACTED] who graduated from Tougaloo College in [REDACTED]. As of this date, Bureau approval has not been received to go ahead with contact re this above suggestion submitted by the Jackson Division. II. OPERATIONS BEING EFFECTED Reference is made to Jackson letter to the Bureau, 1/15/69, wherein the Jackson Division submitted a suggestion which involved the forwarding of an anonymous, serious letter to [REDACTED] which letter reflected information that [REDACTED] 'local law enforcement officials in the Summer of 1968 in order to finance a trip to Europe. Bureau approval was obtained to forward this letter, and it was subsequently prepared by the Jackson Division, mailed to the Atlanta Division and mailed to [REDACTED] from Atlanta on 2/7/69. 2 5 JN 100-980 III. As a result of this dissemin[REDACTED]tion, state and local agencies in Mississippi, especially the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol (MHSP), Hinds County Sheriff's Office, and Jackson PD, provided emphasis to their patrol [REDACTED] to be on the watch for [REDACTED] should he violate any law and to thoroughly search him should he be arrested on any charge. 3 [PEN MARK] [PEN MARK] [PEN MARK] [PEN MARK] 6 JN 100-980 Officers of the Jackson PD spotted [REDACTED] at a Jackson tavern on 1/20/69. He was arrested by the [REDACTED] on drunk charges and subsequently searched. During the research, a .38 caliber pistol was found in his belt, and marijuana cigarettes were found in his clothing. He was charged with drunkenness, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana. The latter charge is a felony and this matter will be presented to a local grand jury on 3/3/69. A new group has been organized at Clemson University and this group is the "Student League for Black Identity". This group is composed of Negro students at Clemson University and Columbia has opened an investigation to determine the groups aims and purposes and also to identify the leaders. The second change is that the Black Arenes s Coordinating Committee (BACC), at Greenville, ^. C., under the has declined in its influence and is now inactive in the Greenville, S. C. area. The other black groups in South Carolina, which continue to be active are the BACC group at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, S. C. and at Voorhees College, at Denmark, South Carolina, and also the Association of Afro-American Students, (AAAS), at the University of South Carolina, (USC), Columbia, South Carolina, These groups continue to be active on the campuses of their respective colleges and Columbia is following their activities and is keeping the Bureau advised of all pertinent developments. Columbia would also like to point out that at the present time there are no Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee members residing in Columbia, S. C. It is anticipated at this time that [REDACTED] will be returned to prison for a period of two to ten years. This situation resulted by bringing the outstanding warrant charging [REDACTED] with the possession of marijuana to the attention of the Parole Office. It was indicated by the Parole Office that this felony warrant had previously been overlooked by the parole authorities and would be executed. [REDACTED] was taken into authorities. [REDACTED] and placed in the care of juvenile San Diego. In addition, [REDACTED] contacted the [REDACTED] - 2 - 13 SD 100-14192 in vict of San Diego Office of the FBI concerning the fact that [REDACTED] is a known member of the BPP. She indicated a strong desire to cooperate with the FBI in any way possible concerning activities of the BPP.
