Relet enclosed a proposed anonymous letter to be sent to Political Editor of the "Atlanta Journal" regarding the transfer of Linda Jenness, Socialist Workers Party (SWP) candidate for Governor of Georgia. Review of your proposal indicates that it will have no disruptive effect upon the growth or influence of the SWP. Accordingly, authority to send this letter is denied. The Bureau appreciates the thought which went into the preparation of this letter. RCP:djw (5) NOTE: Atlanta proposed to send letter indicating that Jenness had been transferred to New York, effective after the elections 11-3-70. The letter is "pitched" in a way which would attempt to have people "on the fence" not vote for Jenness. Such letter would have little effect on the number of votes Jenness would receive and it is not deemed advisable to interferewith the an election where the candidate is legally, on the ballot and there is no way that this proposed action could cause disruption within the SWP. Your letter 8/31/70 indicated this action could cause considerable embarrassment to Linda Jenness and the Socialist Workers Party (SWP) since Jenness could not be a candidate for a political office in the State of Georgia if she were not a resident. Your proposed letter states she will remain in Georgia until after the election, thus much of the effect of this proposal is lost. In addition, no statement is made as to how widely the proposed transfer of Jenness and her husband to New York City has been discussed within the SWP in Atlanta, nor is there any indication as to how the publishing of this information will effect the security of your source. It would appear that a proposed anonymous letter along these lines should hinge upon the fact that Jenness and her husband had been transferred to New York prior to the election, thus indicating that the SWP believes she has no chance of winning. Resubmit a new letter along these lines. In your cover communication answer the questions set forth above. This document is a scanned page from an FBI file, likely a memorandum or report. It features several official stamps, including "REC 85" and "MAILED 12 OCT 28 1970 COMM-FBI". There are also handwritten annotations in blue ink, most notably a series of numbers and symbols near the top right, as well as a wiggly line on the left side. Several sections of the document are blacked out with redactions, particularly in the upper right quadrant, obscuring some of the printed text. The bottom of the page also contains a dotted line pattern, characteristic of older document formatting or stapled pages. No photographs or charts are present.
The image is a scanned document, likely a memorandum, with several handwritten annotations and official stamps. At the top, "Memorandum" is clearly visible, followed by "TO," "FROM," "SUBJECT," and "DATE" fields, with some handwritten entries. There are several black redactions, obscuring portions of text, particularly in the body of the memo and at the bottom. Official stamps, such as "ORIGINAL FILED IN" and a date stamp "OCT 21 1970," are present. There are also handwritten notes and symbols integrated into the text, implying marginalia or specific instructions. The overall appearance suggests a formal internal communication, with elements of redaction indicating sensitive information.

The visually-rich document displays a typewritten letter dated "Atlanta, Georgia," addressed "Dear," and signed "A Patriotic American." The letter discusses Linda Jenness, a candidate for Governor of Georgia, and her transfer to a New York office by the Socialist Workers Party. Notably, a significant portion of the text, including parts of the sender's name and the greeting, is heavily redacted with black ink, suggesting an attempt to obscure sensitive information. The presence of this redaction implies a deliberate effort to conceal the identity of the writer or recipient, common in documents related to surveillance or intelligence operations, hinting at the document's covert nature. The overall visual presentation, with its typewritten text and strategic redactions, reinforces the context of an internal communication potentially related to political surveillance.

She also stated that she doubts the necessity of legal weddings and that a legal marriage should be totally up to the individual and she said, "I don't think it is necessary." In view of the admission by JENNESS as set forth above, it is not felt that the suggestion as set forth in Atlanta letter would be effective and therefore no further action is being taken in this matter. Atlanta will continue to be alert for situations which could warrant consideration in connection with this program.
