There is some conflict between these groups. The authorities in Kansas City, Missouri, decided against taking legal action against the SDS members at the University of Missouri at Kansas City who disrupted classes in view of their expulsion from school. A member of the SDS in Kansas City, Missouri, was dismissed from his job as a teacher from the Kansas City, Missouri, School District which resulted in considerable publicity in the Kansas City area. Efforts are presently being made to have this individual reinstated. POTENTIAL COUNTERINTELLIGENCE ACTION At the present time all colleges and universities in the Kansas City Division are presently operating on their regular fall schedules and most New Left activity is in the process of being reactivated. SDS has been banned from the University of Missouri campus at Columbia, however, a similar type organization has been formed which includes many former SDS members. The Young Socialist Alliance is currently attempting to recruit SDS members and former SDS members at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) and Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas. It is believed that the best potential counterintelligence actions would lie in causing suspicion and distrust among the YSA members and the SDS members. Considerable background information has been [REDACTED] , who has been identified as the developed on leader of the SDS at UMKC and who is reported to be also a member of the YSA. [REDACTED] has a record in Illinois for molesting and was a patient in a mental hospital in Peoria in 1961. A separate communication will be directed to the Bureau out- lining the possible use of this information in a counter- intelligence operation to cause distrust and suspicion between the SDS and the YSA.
