TANGIBLE RESULTS On December 23, 1970, a Christmas Card was mailed from the Federal Penitentiary at McNeil Island, addressed - 2 - SE 100-29237 1 Seattle, Washington. On the outside of the envelope which had been postmarked at McNeil Island, was the notation "Please forward." Inside this Christmas card bearing the following note, dated 12/21/70 at McNeil Island: [REDACTED] This card was obviously sent by and [REDACTED] both of whom were sentenced to McNeil Island for contempt following a mistrial in the "Seattle 8" matter. Another source of the Seattle Office indicated that [REDACTED] Although this activity was connected primarily with a criminal matter, it is felt appropriate to mention it here inasmuch as the subjects involved are all "New Left" subjects currently under investigation. It will be remembered that the Now Left was to be distinguished from the Old Left by its lack of factionalism. We can't vouch for the total accuracy of this chart or that it will clear up all the misunderstanding surrounding the split. However, those who were confused about how the minority at the convention could expel the majority when the SDS constitution contained no provision for expelling anybody will be relieved by the following statement issued by the now officers of the "real" SDS: Takıng a vote "was rejected, as it meant counterrevolutionaries having too right to 'vota' on their own counterrevolutionary signature."
